In A Pit With A Lion On A Snowy Day Review

In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day is a book that challenges us to be great “lion chasers” for God. Based off of 2 Samuel chapter 23 Mark Batterson takes the reader on an exciting rider of what it can be like to be a modern day “lion chaser”. A “lion chaser” is like Benaiah in 2 Samuel chapter 23. You see Benaiah is who this book is named after. He is the one who killed a lion in a pit on a snowy day. Mark takes the reader through different stories of what people in his church have been through and how they have been “lion chasers”.

What is so cool about this book is that Mark gives the reader lots of new information that can help them understand a different “lion chasing” technique. Mark would share how the brain learns something or different ways that business leaders challenge themselves to stay chasing after the lions in their lives. One story that was inspiring to me was one that Mark told of a lawyer that was in his church that stepped away from his practice to film a movie about slave trafficking in Uganda. Another inspiring story was about a executive from Microsoft who walked away from stock options to plant a church.

This books is an exciting page turner that will keep you reading and make it hard for you to put it down. Not only is this book exciting but it will challenge you spiritually. You will walk away inspired to be a “lion chaser” for God. One quote that stood out to me as I read this book was: “I’m concerned that the church has turned into a bunker where we seek shelter when we’re actually called to storm the gates of hell.” This book has challenged me immensely as to how I view my walk with God. I hope that you will take the time to pick it up and let it challenge you.

“I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review”.
